DIBI 2011
Although it’s now more than a month since DIBI (Design It Build It), we thought it would be useful to provide some feedback on the annual web conference.
DIBI’s niche is that it’s a two track conference split between (and attracting) both Designers and Developers however, this is also its limitation as with a full timetable, we couldn’t help but feel like we were missing out on something interesting in the room next door which is testament to the quality of the speakers in attendance and topics covered at DIBI. Fortunately videos of the speakers will eventually go online so we can catch up on all that we did not see on the day.
We split our time as best we could across both tracks, and there were some definite standouts on the programme. Jeremy Keith covered some core ideas that we believe strongly in during his aptly titled talk, ‘One Web’, such as embracing the flexibility of the web and not relying on device specific designs.
Another one of the more memorable performances came from Jared Spool who has a natural ability to captivate and enthral the audience. Jared discussed ways to make your design more intuitive, another topic that is important to us when developing our solutions.
Being based in the centre of Newcastle, the conference was just a short walk across the Tyne to The Sage Gateshead. It was a well-structured day, with plenty of breaks punctuating events including snacks and drinks to keep everyone well nourished.
The buffet and pre-paid tab behind the bar spoke for themselves at the after party which was a good opportunity to meet others within the industry and all in all, it certainly left us looking forward to the next one.
